AFTERCARE
Once bandaged, leave the bandage on for a few hours or until you’re home for the evening. This will help to protect it from bacteria and other irritants.
Before touching your new tattoo, ensure that your hands are freshly washed and clean to prevent introducing any bacteria.
Gently remove the bandage. If the bandage sticks, you can moisten it with lukewarm water to make removal easier. Once the bandage is removed, do not re-wrap it.
Using a fragrance-free antibacterial soap and warm water, gently wash the tattooed area. Use your clean hands to wash away any buildup -do not use a washcloth or sponge during the first few days. Dial bar soap is my go-to for antibacterial soap.
Gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel. Avoid rubbing, as it can irritate the healing skin.
Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion to keep the tattoo moisturized. Repeat this process 2-3 times a day. I recommend using Aveeno or Lubriderm. Aquaphor ointment is okay too, but only use a tiny amount! Do not use Neosporin, vaseline, or any marketed tattoo aftercare. Simple is better and less is more.
Avoid picking or scratching. Resist the urge to pick at scabs or peel the healing skin. This can lead to scarring and interfere with the tattoo's healing process.
Avoid direct sun exposure while your tattoo is healing. Once it is fully healed, daily spf is recommended.
Avoid swimming and soaking. Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and baths for 2-3 weeks until your tattoo is fully healed. Prolonged exposure to water can increase the risk of infection. Showers are totally fine.
Wear breathable and loose-fitting clothing to avoid friction and irritation on the healing tattoo.
